Photoshop skills development

To create this firsty i tried to neatly cut around the image of Bob Dylan with the eraser tool which i came to the conclusion, it is uneffective as it isn't neat. so to make the edges neat i used the quick selection tool and made sure it went around the outline of him neatly. Then to make him stand out i changed the background colour, by using the rectangle tool and making the image of Bob Dylan the top layer. Last of all i used the text tool to apply my masthead, then again making Bob Dylan the top layer so his hair sligtly covers the bottom of the text.
first of all the create this i had to cut around the image with the quick selection tool. Then to make the edges more neat i used refle edge and messed around with the tools such as contrast and smart radius until the edges where neat enough. I came to the conclusion for my image the correct smoothness was 8 and the contrast was 85. To then make the background colour i selected the rectangle tool, chose my colour and drew a box as big as the page. The make the image come back to the front i had to make sure i dragged it to the top layer. I then used the text to create my masthead and subheadings.
